Cold London Mornings and a Study Day

11;02, Mikel’s coffee

Good morning! I am up, I am out, I am enjoying eduroam wifi all the way from Mikel’s coffee shop. Isn’t that crazy? Maybe because UCL is across the street. Eduroam is only for universities, right? In any case, I’m very pleased. It’s a Saturday but I need to study so I’ve come to central London to hang around the library and a few cafes.

The coffee at Mikel’s is always superior in my opinion. And, oh my goodness, when I came upstairs, I was blasted with blessedly warm air. Nice change from outside, which is freezing. When I left the house this morning, the clouds had descended from the heavens, covering the streets in a light layer of fog. Not sure if you can make it out in the photos but you can scroll down and see. It was so cold my breath was turning misty as it left my body. There was one man vaping (in the morning, really?!) and it looked like he was billowing smoke from a locomotive train.

Anyway, I’ve got coffee in my system now (americano with a splash of cream, not milk, weird for a Brit, I know) and I stopped at Tesco to pick up a snack for later since I skipped breakfast and did not pack anything for lunch. Lots of meal deals on offer but I’m on a no-carb no-sugar streak so I’ve just about gotten over those cravings. I ended up buying a little charcuterie style platter and I’m also armed with two babybels. Haha, lunch for champions.

I did consider some ready-to-eat chicken but it had ingredients like rapeseed oil and sugar so…guess I’m taking my health seriously for now.

20:45, Home

Evening gentle folk. I’ve just spent some time on the website, editing here and there. Making the previously mentioned carnivore rant a separate post as to not assault your eyes with my rambling. You’ll be pleased to know I made a good start on studying Property Law and feel I have the background knowledge down. I recited everything I learnt on the phone to my mum, haha. I sort of started then couldn’t stop but she patiently waited for me to finish my spiel about the Battle of Hastings and the start of feudalism in England and Wales. Bless her.

Oh, I should start at Mikel’s. So, after it started to get busy I thought it was time to move on and went to the library. Saw a load of tents on the pavement. I’ve been seeing more and more recently. Makes me think of our last Property Law class actually, which was about homelessness. It truly is a problem we have to address now. At the library I saw my happy library staff friend whose name I don’t know but always stop to chat to for a minute.

Then I got a great massive table (win!), printed the stuff I needed to print – already downloaded them onto my USB in Mikel’s, it’s just some blood test results and an appointment letter for my doctor, gosh i’m so old fashioned – and got on with studying. I love this subject so it wasn’t too bad. The only problem is I want to know everything and it gets in the way of managing my time and spending it wisely studying what will be in the exam. You know? ADHD things. But overall, good study session.

I went home after that because it was just so cold outside today, around zero degrees, even in the library it felt cold. Thank God I found my gloves buried in the bottom of my bag so I wore those on the way home. Remember a scarf next time! Took some cute nature pictures after a little walk, then went home. Ate the charcuterie thing which I forgot to have earlier and also fried some fish. The best part was the hot shower that followed. I usually take cold showers but I think I’ll be switching back to hot for the foreseeable future.

I’ve done a bit more studying at home so I think I’ll just continue that and wish you a goodnight!
