00:42 AM, Bedroom
What a night, eh? This is an Easter Monday entry but it’s been less than an hour since Sunday, so I’ll fill you in. It was a slow start for me on Sunday morning. I woke up late, took it pretty easy, but finally got around to doing some chores around the house. Call it spring cleaning, if you will. Did a bunch of laundry. Made myself an interesting breakfast of chilli oil eggs in a croissant-wich.
FYI, did you know if you put a croissant in one of those glass Ninja Crispi’s, it will start to spin really fast? I actually freaked out because it looked like my pastry was possessed or gearing up to take flight. I just wanted to warm it up. Never mind that though. I think because the Crispi was mostly empty, the fan was making all the air go around in a circle, thus, possessing my croissant with pagan energy. Anyway, I didn’t stick around to find out if it was cursed because I immediately unplugged it.
Listen, I once saw an air fryer at my mum’s house catch on fire and it is no joke. I don’t play when it comes to these appliances. After that I washed my hair and tried to blow-dry it pretty because I was soon going to mums place for an Easter dinner party she was hosting. Fun!
The food was wonderful as always and coincidentally, Italian themed. Well, mums versions of Italian. She made two huge trays of lasagne (which got a bit crispy truth be told, but Persians love those crispy parts, its just bonus tadik), a huge amount of chicken parm, and extra chicken-with-no-parm that was basically schnitzel (an option for the kids). We had a bunch of charcuterie bits and bobs, and I also made a caprese salad as soon as I arrived. We had a bit of shisha too.
The best part was the dinner party games. My niece and nephew taught us how to play imposters and we all had a blast trying to figure out who the imposters were. Not sure we were playing biblically accurate but it was hilarious. Then I brought up another of my ‘would you accept this deal’ scenarios. This one I had actually thought up earlier today (yesterday, technically) while I was driving. Inspiration came from me hearing the faint sounds of a police siren while in the car, which made me a bit anxious because I always question if there’s police or ambulance that need me to move out of my lane or if they’re coming from a different direction.
But then I realised the sound was coming from the song I was listening to in the car. For some reason, this prompted me into thinking that the sound of police sirens inducing a low level anxiety makes it a good contender for these dinner party scenarios where you have to contemplate if you would or would not accept the deal because the cons are just annoying enough to make you hesitate giving an immediate ‘yes’ to the deal. Does that make sense?
The scenario I pitched was this: would you accept the 50% chance of getting $250 million tax free dollars in 5 years, based on flipping a coin, but, having to endure for the first 5 years, the faint and distance sound of police sirens in moments of quiet and deep contemplation?
What does that mean? It means, when you’re sleeping you won’t hear it. When you are singing you won’t hear it. When you’re listening to music, you won’t hear it (unless it’s in the song naturally, of course). When someone is talking to you, you won’t hear it.
But. In a silent house where no noise has been made for a while, you begin to hear it. When you reach a truly meditative state, it starts to sound in your ears. When you enter that trance like state during a long drive, you hear it. The fact that you don’t always hear it makes you think its actually happening in real time, which makes you think you need to react. In those moments between sleep and waking, when you believe you’re unconscious but your eyes are half-lidded, you hear faint traces of the sirens. It will always be faint, leaving you craning your ears to see if the sound increases, to know if the police is drawing nearer, to know whether or not its real.
Personally, I think it would get real annoying, real quick. It’s one of those scenarios that look simple on the surface but the more you think about it, the more you’d hesitate to take the offer. Plus, its not a guarantee of a quarter of a million dollars, it’s a 50% chance. You might endure all that annoyance for nothing. I offered this scenario and that prompted some interesting conversations.
Afterwards, we had some tea and I mirrored my phone screen on the TV to show everyone the pictures me and Steve took in Greece last year. It came up because me and Steve are going to Greece again in a of couple weeks, this time taking mum and sis too as a gift for mums birthday. I’m very excited. I wish Steve was here today, he’d have loved it. Then I put on a few videos of “What Would You Do?” on YouTube. It’s always a tear jerker. Doesn’t hurt that it helps restore my faith in humanity. Most of the time.
It was pretty late when I left. 11:45PM, I think. All the guests left at the same time. I came home and immediately set about putting my newly dried bedsheets on the bed. Then I got comfy, made myself a nice packed lunch in my new bento box for tomorrow, and put my bunny night light in charge. I’m not as tired as I should be because I woke up so late, but I’ll spend a little time now writing my schedule for tomorrow and playing some animal crossing on my Nintendo Switch. That should help. I find it therapeutic. Will update you later today. Happy Easter!

5:51 PM, Mum’s House
I ended up sleeping at 3AM. This morning when my alarm rang, I promptly turned it off and went back to sleep. Then mum called me at 10:30am and said she and my sis were going out. That got my butt out of bed and I proceeded to get ready in 15 minutes flat, then quickly drove over to mums. Good thing too, because I had no cream left and I can’t make my morning americano without cream.
Naturally, the first thing I did at mums was grab some cream from her fridge and made myself a coffee using the Nespresso. Then me, mum and sis sat around the kitchen table trying to decide where to go and chatting about the dinner party last night. Hehe. We decided on Yorkdale Mall. Mum hasn’t been there in ages and I only really shop there once or twice a year. Sis wanted to go to Sherway Gardens but I wasn’t feeling it.
We headed to Yorkdale and honestly, I’m always reminded that its really not a bad mall. Just gets a bad rep for the occasional shootings that take place there. I ended up buying some home goods and a couple things at Muji. I recently saw a short documentary on YouTube about Muji. Apparently, in Japan itself (Muji is Japanese) the most liked products are the ready food stuffs. This kind of blew my mind because I didn’t even know they sold any food. I thought it was just a stationary shop for years!
I was initially introduced to Muji through Selfridges in London, which had a small Muji pen collection. Whenever mum took us to Selfridges, me and my sister would always buy a couple of ink pens. They were just so smooth and sleek looking. Anyway, I digress. Today I purchased the 60 coloured pencil set for $35 Canadian dollars and a travel toiletry bag for $20. The latter I’ll use for my trip to Greece or the gym.
For a spot of lunch, we went to the third floor food court where I knew there to be a small Japanese stall selling Japanese style egg sandwiches (wow, this is unintentionally turning into a Japan themed shopping trip). I got ‘Combo C’ which I’d tried before. It comes with a custard bun, Japanese egg sando, and drink of choice. My drink? Mango oolong tea. Quite nice!
They wanted coffee, so we went back down to Michaels where I secured a table and they queued up. The line was so long and the place was packed. They ordered some food, pastry and coffee. I didn’t bother with a coffee since I’m a one-coffee-a-day kinda gal. Thankfully. At least I have that going for me. xD
The last stop at Yorkdale was Sunglass Hut where my sister bought two new sunglasses, one of which was purchased with her impending brunette hair in mind, haha. She is dead set on dying her black hair brunette for summer. I’m already a natural brunette so I tried on the pink-brown ombre shades she wanted and they looked good. YSL. The black version is also very nice in a different way. Trés chic. But she went with the ombre one which I think will suit spring and summer more.
After that, I drove us all to LA Fitness so mum and sis could fulfil their side quest of signing up to the gym. I’m already an absentee member of an elite gym so I stayed in the car and had a call with Steve. Then it was homewards. Mum’s house, I mean. I ate my packed lunch, which I’d left in mums fridge, and that was basically my dinner. I would have gone to the library today to study and have my packed lunch there but it’s Easter Monday so the library was closed. Oh well. At least I got to spend time with my favourite girlies.
My good boy Biscuit also had some fun play time with me. I feel bad we had to leave him at home today so I made sure to give him attention and some carrots and chicken, which he loves. Now I’ll do some miscellaneous laptop things and hang out with my family a bit more. Note to self: I need to get as much of my tasks complete before the holiday as possible. I’ll keep you posted. Ciao!
