Ponytail and red ribbon

New Year’s Dinner at The Octagon

Happy New Year! Last nights party was so great! We got home at around 2am and I immediately washed off my makeup and flopped into bed. I slept in this morning – I think everyone did – and got up at around 11am. Hung out with mum for a bit, got her to tie a cute red ribbon in my hair. Then I made the fam some eggs. A new twist on the eggs today; I first put some spicy Genoa salami in the pan, let it heat up till the oil seeped out. Then I cracked the eggs right on top and let it crisp up on the bottom. Sprinkled some salt, black pepper, no-salt seasoning and fresh parsley. It was such a hit!

I also called a lawyer whose number mum gave me to address those car tickets. He was nice enough to come pick up the papers today despite it being New Year’s Day. Before he came though, I drove to Steve’s place, picked him up, and we went to Starbucks for a bit. Let me tell you, that place was packed. There was only one small table smack bang in the middle with a single chair left unattended, so I nabbed it while Steve waited in line, then I grabbed him the only other empty chair in the whole shop from another ladies table. She can rest her coat elsewhere. Then I was on my laptop the whole time researching my Intellectual Property Law problem question.

We didn’t stay long. The lawyer guy said he’d drop by in 2 hours so I drove us to mums place and said lawyer turned up 20 minutes later. Seemed like a nice guy. And he lives only 30 seconds away from us! Who’d have thunk it? He said he’d file the papers today but it usually takes at least 7 months to get a response. That’s fine by me. I’ll be back in England in less than 2 weeks to finish up my final year at law school (ahhhh!) so by the time the court date rolls around, I should be back in Canada. That’s assuming it goes to court. Hopefully, we can resolve it outside the courtroom.

Anyway, I’m going to get back to studying IP law now. We have dinner reservations at the Octagon Steakhouse tonight at 7pm. Plus we’re taking my mum and step-dad too. I’m sure it’ll be great. I’ve heard good things about this place. Ok, back to studying!

Me and Steve took Biscuit for a walk because I was angsty to get up and do something physical. My mind really wasn’t interested in studying today but I managed to get through two units of IP law and do some research on the assessment question. Continuing at this rate, I should be through all the material and answer the questions in time for the deadline.

It’s 1 degree celsius outside. My forehead was freezing. We only took Biscuit as far as the park where I played on the swings a bit, then we walked him around the neighbourhood and came home. He was appropriately appreciative. Now I’m showing Steve my website to get his feedback. He’s also helping my mum with some miscellaneous laptop stuff, bless him. I’m hungry. Looking forward to dindin. Happy New Year everyone! May all your resolutions come true!
