Waterstones, Surprise Workshops, and Girl Dinner

Wednesday 29th November, 2023

VERY LATE, HOME

Not much to report on today. Woke up, got dressed, raced to class. Grabbed a coffee and a Chicken Caesar wrap. Realised I had an additional super late workshop. Hanged around with my friends for a bit until it was time for said workshop. We spent some time in Waterstones and even did an impromptu photoshoot for one of the books included in our book club reading list. One of my friends had to dash so I tapped her in for class as she’s done countless times for me. Then I went home. That was it really. I also studied a bit and booked a room for my club’s next meeting, so hopefully that goes through with the catering request. Which really just consists of tea, coffee and biscuits.

Most enjoyable part of the day was Property Law class. This teacher is a young, very obviously socialist leaning, well-informed individual, and she makes the topic very interesting. She’s well read and performed excellently at university herself. I agree with most of her views, though I don’t think we should become socialist, at least not as far as I know, which isn’t much on the topic to be fair. And I didn’t agree with her views on some of the taxes we discussed. She preached about how we should take homelessness seriously (agreed) as it could be us tomorrow and by that point it would be an awful lot harder to enact changes in the law regarding that topic.

But then when we were talking about stamp tax and a few others, she was all for it. I think she only applies her philosophy in scenarios she imagines herself in. It’s not my fault she does not imagine herself as a homeowner one day. She could set her ambitions higher. But if she did manage to work hard, earn enough, and finally purchase a house, I imagine all the taxes that come along with that transactions and moving and whatnot would not be viewed so favourably by her then. Also, what if she decided to leave her hard earned house to her children one day?

Would she be happy for the government to take their cut again- this is triple tax people, you were already taxed on your income which bought the house remember – before her children could inherit? Tax is a scam in my view, anyway you cut it. It was useful once upon a time – maybe – but now, with an incompetent and corrupt government, why are we paying tax?

People should really look ahead and expect the best for themselves. Instead of trying to aim for a society where we can all afford the houses we want, her type (I say this indifferently, she is my favourite seminar tutor) try to drag us all downwards to be at the same level, when we can drag each other upwards to achieve the same thing. Anyway, this is all conjecture. I don’t really know what she thinks. Plus, she did say she has some interesting new points to think about, so I’m glad she’s open minded. And perhaps I’m too optimistic, but honestly, thats not usually the case with me. I’m just certain about some of the things I want, and owning property is one of them.

Of course it will happen if it’s a given in my subconscious. If it were a mere thought in the conscious mind, that I did not truly believe, there would be less of a chance it would happen. (Is that basically manifesting? I do agree that we are what we think, only insofar as we believe it.) So all this reinforced negativity and joking on social media about how this generation won’t own property, well we’re really cementing that idea and making it the standard when we should be doing the opposite.

For dinner I bought some spinach and ricotta ravioli and made my own tomato sauce for it. It was pretty good. Can’t complain. Needed protein though. I’ve got some cod for tomorrow. I try to have fish at least once a week. Anywho, with this abrupt ending, I bid you a goodnighty-night.
